What to expect
In the time during and immediately following treatment, you
can expect to following effects:
- Sleeplessness, anxiety and light sensitivity, which
will diminish over time.
- Lack of appetite, which will also lessen within a
day or two.
- Initially mood swings, then a sense of well-being
due to the anti-depressant effects for few days, thereafter normal functioning.
- At least a 90 % reduction in withdrawal symptoms,
compared with cold-turkeying
- At least a 90 % reduction in cravings
- Ataxia, or difficulty to co-ordinate movements – this
will also gradually improve with time, and can take up to 48 hours or longer
- Some form of anxiety during your experience. It
is important to remember at this time that wherever Ibogaine takes you, it will
bring you back. Go with it and embrace the feelings you are experiencing
- Fatigue with physical activities, which will improve
to normal within a few days
- A change in attitude from friends and loved ones
due to your new “clean” status. This is because the former
see you as a threat to their (and your “old”) lifestyle and the
latter are skeptic about your “clean intent”
- A return of small cravings and uncertainty about
your decision to change your lifestyle after some time. If you have your
post-experience support network in place, you should be able to overcome these
feelings without too much difficulty. Counseling and advice during your
stay will also equip you with some of the tools to recognize and resist these
cravings. If you are afraid at this stage that you could fail, you may
book another session if you wish to do so. (Not much experience has been gained
with Crystal Meth (Ice, or tik) users so far and the long term effectiveness
for these addicts are only estimated at about 50%, when Ibogaine is used with
longer-term counseling or psycho-therapy afterwards.) It must be remembered
due to the mechanism of action of Ibogaine, the physical reason (Changes to
certain brain structures and chemicals due to drug abuse) for cravings will
be removed – Ibogaine does this automatically, and if a craving is experienced,
we advise that you look for the triggers for these cravings, which will be
psychological, and put measures into place to take care of them when they occur.
What not to expect
An experience resembling Ayahuasca, LSD, Psylocybin,
Mescaline, or any better-known, illegal hallucinogenic substance. This
is not an Acid trip! Or a walk in the park!
A permanent, effortless cure for addiction. You
will need to do some hard work and have support (Including counseling with a
psychologist/psychiatrist, support groups, etc.) in place afterwards to ensure
success. You also need to follow the advice that our counselors give you
to the letter.
A completely happy, anxiety free, picnic-like experience
100% Success guarantee – We have had failures
in the past, and after analyses we came to the conclusion that they occurred
when people are under pressure to come, or when they ignore the advice offered
to them by our counselors blatantly.
Full recovery from the experience within a couple of
days up to two weeks, especially after treatment for longer acting opiates,
like methadone or buprenorphine.
Minor withdrawals may return after 14 to 24 hours after
having taken the main dose of Ibogaine. If withdrawal is real (measured
objectively and scientifically) and serious, there are measures that can
be taken to try to avoid unnecessary discomfort for yourself.
Benefits
- Manageable or no withdrawals, decreased cravings
- Introspection
- Answers to personal questions
- Firm foundation for psychological therapy
- Increased spiritual awareness
- Integrity and self-respect
- A constructive start to a drug free life
Risks
Liver problems – This is avoided
by medically screening candidates for underlying serious liver problems.
Heart episodes – Same as with
liver problems. It is vitally important to make your care givers aware
of any episodes or illnesses in the past that could affect heart function.
Breathing difficulty – Same
as with liver and heart problems – it is important to disclose all historical
information before taking Ibogaine.
Mood-swings can occur for a few weeks,
following an initial feeling of constant euphoria.
Taking Ibogaine while being pregnant can
pose a serious risk to the unborn child, because although very little is
known about its effects on the fetus, there is a strong suspicion that it does
cross the placental barrier to reach the fetus, and no information is available
about its effects during development of the fetus or after delivery. Therefore
pregnant women will be excluded from our facility.
Being sucked back to old habits by
old friends and loved ones who act strange to the new, clean you
Some people have a preference for the doping lifestyle. Overdosing is
always an emergency and sometimes fatal, especially when an opiate-like drug
is your drug of choice. If this is your choice, it must be kept in mind
that one should start at only 1/5th of the usual pre- Ibogaine dose to avoid
an overdose. It must also be kept in mind that one should refrain from
using other hallucinogenic substances for at least one year after your experience,
as the effects of these will be greatly enhanced, and could lead to a negative
trip. It is important to see this as the last step – ever. No
margin can be allowed for error, no experimenting, nothing – ever. You
have come to a decision, and half measures, or a one-day-at-a-time, or a never-say-never
attitude will not suffice. This is an all-or-nothing decision.
Driving vehicles too soon could jeopardize
both the driver and other road users
Conclusion
Although Ibogaine can be considered as one of natures’ miracles,
it cannot be seen as a definite and complete cure. It
is merely a vehicle for people with the resolve to rid themselves
of a habit or substance. Ibogaine only provides the first
and very important means to interrupt a habit for long enough
so that it gives a good kick-start to your new lifestyle. One
can drive or fly between two distant places, and both means
will get you there, but the one is just so much easier and less
painful. Results are also much more promising than with existing
rehabilitation programs. This is the function of
Ibogaine – to get you flying so that your personal journey
can be started on a much more positive note.
Prognosis for full, long-term recovery
is also increased about ten to twenty-fold with Ibogaine, compared
with current rehabilitation modalities. Experience both local and overseas shows that
the long-term recovery rate for opiate addiction is about 65%,
with aftercare. We believe that the Ibogaine route offers
a holistic method of treatment where body, mind and soul are
treated simultaneously and comprehensively. The patient
becomes the therapist and doctor, treating him/herself according
to exact needs.
One must also remember that it is
not a smooth ride. Some
aspects can be disturbing and when these are experienced,
it is important to remember what your objective is and why
you have chosen to take part in the experience.
What makes the Ibogaine treatment different to other treatment
modalities?
We believe that many rehabilitation
programs focus to some extent on some form of suffering, because
without pain it will be easier to return to addiction. It is
seen as a sort of punishment for the addicts’ “weakness”. We believe
that it is nobody’s choice to be addicted, and that addicts
have the right to be assisted with compassion and dignity
to cleanse themselves of their addiction, should they choose
to do so.
Other treatment modalities have difficulties
balancing the amount or energy of treatment for the body (withdrawals
and cravings), the mind (decision making processes), and the
soul (Religion and spiritual issues). Ibogaine is the most
successful and humane way to achieve this goal, because it provides
appropriate treatment for each individual, according to need,
by turning the individual into both therapist and patient, and
by removing most, if not all withdrawal symptoms and cravings
for the specific drug. No other substance drug can offer
this without the potential of a secondary addiction.
Once treated, you can assume that
a long-standing friendship has been formed with us and our
staff. We will walk the
way with you; give advice when asked for, because we have a
passion for what we do. Each patient is treated as a special
person who has to succeed, no matter what steps need to be taken. Being
entrusted with such a life-changing event is an honor, not
a task.
But, the real success of quitting
a habit ultimately lies in the person wanting to quit. Without
the will and tenacity to see the attempt through, nobody will
succeed.
